Replaced my flimsy original 987.1 cowl braces with these great value Revains. Never go to a dealer for something like this. The Stabilus brand, both new and with them, is essentially OEM equivalent. Anyway, have a friend hold the cowl and use a small flat head to gently pry the black metal clips enough to slide them into the notches/lugs on the ball end of the strut. Leave that good OEM factory grease on the ball, don't wipe it off. If it's dry, use quality material. You'll find that you need to slow down the movement of the lid as you open it.
