Review on KMC 10 CR Missing Link (Set of 6, Silver) by Mark Sharma

Such a handy little gizmo

I just used one of these on a Campy Super Record 10 speed chain that I sold for next to nothing. I also bought some KMC pliers - one for assembly and one for disassembly - for the missing link. I just found an unexpanded pin that was used to build an old chain on my road bike with a Campy Chorus (it was a 10 speed Centaur chain) and used a standard chain breaking tool to pry it out . I then placed this chain back to back with the new chain next to it on my workbench and calculated how many links the new chain could be shortened by. I then used the same chain breaking tool to push out one of the expanding hollow pins on the new chain. This is probably not the recommended method for removing either of these pins, but other than a little initial resistance, it came out without much fuss. I then simply inserted both halves of the missing link, holding the plates together with one hand and using KMC pliers to lock the pins/plates in place. Voila! Did. Without pliers, all you would have to do is pull the chain to install the panels, but pliers make the job easier, in my opinion. I also tried a second pair of pliers to take the chain apart and they worked fine too. These missing links perfectly match the width and tolerances of Campy 10-speed chains. Now if you remove the chain from time to time and put it all in my solvent based sonic cleaner it will make thorough chain cleaning and lubrication much easier.
