It should have gotten a five star rating and fireworks. It would be if I bought just one of those cheese slices. In my opinion this is the ONLY cheese slice on the market worth the devil. This is EXACTLY the cheese slicer I remember from my childhood in the last century. This unit could still be somewhere nearby, doing its humble little job without any drama whatsoever. He was bulletproof. Since then, every cheese slicer I've had the misfortune of has been a flimsy and over-the-top imitation. I've come to terms with the fact that cheese slicers have become disposable. No one bothered to make them strong enough. When I found this guy on Revain, I recognized him immediately. There is no doubt about its simple and durable design. Made in Germany? Yes of course! And I wasn't disappointed at all. He did an excellent job with his simple task. So satisfying. And even washed in the dishwasher and became sparkling. Like new! It was the second block that broke the magic. Yes, I bought another one. I expected the same Teutonic quality and it was all there. Except when I put it in the dishwasher. Everything came out shiny EXCEPT the roller. It has turned grey. I'm assuming the handles and casters on these devices are aluminum. Aluminum that is "anodized" to prevent discoloration. "Except that the video got a defective coating on my second device. The first one always comes out of the dishwasher and looks like new. Not like his cousin. Both slicers work great. Only one thing is not so nice. Damn. ****************** Update May 2017 In the end I threw away the broken cheese slicer. The "grey" roller moved to the cheese. But after some deliberation I decided to order another food slicer. The new food slicer has already been washed several times in the dishwasher and the color has not changed. And the original slicer still looks like new. At this point it looks like my second slicer is isolated garbage. At least one can hope so. I would be happy if my other food slicers kept their new look for years to come. Hopefully if you decide to buy one you won't be disappointed.
