This worked on my 2008 VW Passat. Be careful when you open it and change the insides. It doesn't have the small rubber grommets of the original, so it's not as dust and water resistant as the original, but it works, looks good and most importantly, starts the car. There are some helpful videos on YouTube. It takes a little time and effort to take it apart without breaking anything. If you need a spare key like I do, you can get a new one from your VW dealer. For me, it costs about $250 for a new keychain from the dealer. I have tried to get a new key fob from other places but for my year and model you have to get it from the dealer.
