Review on Kitchen Damascus Lightweight Hammered Ergonomic Kitchen & Dining by Larry Cole

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice pad with good knives

I saw the design and had to have it. Expensive set but I think it's value for money. The knives look like real damask cutlery, as far as I can tell on closer inspection. I didn't like the handle at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's very comfortable to hold. The weight is just right, not too heavy but not too light to avoid cutting yourself. Balance is good for santoku and chef, a bit odd for a small paring knife - see photo. The "knife block" impresses with two side windows and a low angle. Great low angle idea to avoid the common problem of other knife blocks not working when you have low cabinets (can't slide out). But to use this block you need to fully insert the knives and make sure the knife tip is in the air and off the bottom of the block. The middle Santoku slot has a groove at the bottom, but the Chief doesn't. Make it a habit to put the knives in the knife block. The paring knife was a little disappointing. I tried to show it in the picture but there were burrs/chips on the tip on one side. I had to use a wet stone to remove and smooth it out. Even then it's still not very sharp and I'll have to sharpen it soon. This is a quality issue as these knives are usually factory sharpened by individuals. Santoku and the chef were very spicy, done right.
