Review on High Quality Sierra 18-7202 Brass Carburetor Float with Alcohol Resistant Feature by Chp Rodgers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The only part I needed to get my carburetor working again

I rebuilt the carburetor on my Mercruiser 3.0 using one of these aftermarket kits and it probably worked fine for a few months, before it suddenly started pouring. I took the carb apart again, kept measuring the float height and drop, but still no luck. Either it was flooded or it didn't get enough fuel, and the difference was a millimeter or two in the height of the float. I eventually went ahead and ordered an OEM rebuild kit but received it and found it didn't include a new float! Spend almost $100 and don't haggle what a joke! Then I finally found this float and ordered it. As soon as I got it I rebuilt the carb using this float and the OEM rebuild kit and it worked great. The boat now starts and runs great. After that I examined the float that came with the aftermarket repair kit I originally used and found that it had cracked where the metal arm meets the plastic. I'm pretty sure this was my problem all along and all I really had to do was replace the float with this one and I'd be fine. some foam, and there seems to be some flaking off, at least at first. I could see it flaking off and possibly clogging the jets in the carburetor or some other small hole, but so far it doesn't seem to have happened. I was careful to remove any dust or bits that seemed to be peeling off prior to installation, so that may have helped.

Pros
  • Durable fairing
Cons
  • There are downsides
