It serves 90% of my needs. In the beginning, I required a network drive for my laptop, a drive for Time Machine backups, access to files outside of the home network, and storage for images. All of these problems can be overcome in principle with relatively minor adjustments. Disk access over the local area network is quick enough for typical office use; there are no lags due to transmission delays over cable or wireless. The time machine located the disk without any delay; everything was prepared and saved on the NAS. Files can be accessed from outside the home network by setting up Drive or Webdav. While the former is fast, the latter is painfully slow. The required data will hopefully be downloaded. When I need to transfer images from my phone, laptop, and tablet, I find that Resilio Sync is the quickest and most dependable option. Even when away from home, the phone's background image uploads proceed without a hitch. Videos > songs Although it appears to function, the frequent freezing caused me to abandon its use. Iron is a rather frail material. As long as you stick to the NAS's core functionality (network drive, file storage, and backup), you should be good. If you're trying to do anything more involved, like search through files, convert photo-video, or edit office documents, you'll find that everything is so slow that you won't be able to get anything done. Approximately 10,000 text files were indexed by search for 2 months before indexing was disabled. In a relatively lengthy 2-3 hours, Moments may index 1GB of images. If there are any programs that you know you won't use, it's best to disable them right away. In general, it's preferable to establish a start and stop time for the package (e.g., Moments operates throughout the day, Drive synchronizes folders in the evening, Cloud Backup and Hyper Backup generate backups at night, and Resilio retrieves photographs from all devices in the morning). The device is more or less usable in this setting. When only one service is active at a time, file transfers over the network are relatively quick and painless.
