Review on Effortlessly Replace Crankshaft And Camshaft Seal With Honhill'S 20-Piece Kit by Scott Larson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

NOT GOOD FOR REMOVAL

Overall the set looks pretty nice and and does have a large number of seal driver "rings for new seal install. That is a plus and no complaints there. The problem are the "hooks" for the seal extractor tool. The hooks are very flimsy and are NOT heat treated in any fashion. I attempted to use the extractor to remove the front crank seal from an Isuzu 2.2 4-cylinder engine I am servicing. I fit the hooks into the seal "at 9 & 3" and that was super easy. I then worked the extractor bar into place and began turning the hand crank to draw the seal out. With very little effort the hook end failed and the 90* ends bent almost straight and came right out of the seal. I proceeded to do what 99% of mechanics do and use a couple of small sheetrock screws and pair of vise-grip pliers to remove the seal. There are 2 reasons why I give this kit 1 start. First reason is the seal drivers will likely be used at some point so there is value there. The second reason is 1 star is the lowest rating available.

Pros
  • good product
Cons
  • Showed up used with a missing part.

Really decent for the price. The puller arm bent like everyone else said. I think I put too much pressure on it too fast though so kinda my fault. All the cups worked good. Did a 3.4 Tacoma car and crank seals and it had enough pieces
