Correct cruise control, but installation problem.

This is the Promaster Forum's preferred cruise control. My PM didn't come with cruise, so I knew I'd install it eventually. I'm not particularly experienced but installed it in about an hour. Most of them involve joining connecting blocks together. That's a good thing, because the instructions are not enough, they have been printed in small print and photocopied for about 50 generations. Exceptions: * The power cable detaches from the ignition power cable. It's a bit uncomfortable; Strip the insulation and solder the red wire to the ignition wire. It's a bit tight and I didn't like it during installation.* 8 pins need to be inserted into the terminal block. They come like this, so you can thread them through the hole you're drilling for the stem, THEN insert and make the connection. Mine was acting like crazy when I started the van. Many codes worked. RPMs were high at 1500 and climbed higher to around 2500 rpm when cruise was engaged. No accelerator. When you step on the brake, the revs drop and the engine stalls. WHAT? There were no troubleshooting steps in the "instructions" although some of their other product guides do. I called Rostra tech support but they were closed over the weekend. :-( Called them back this morning and got back to me right away. The tech immediately said I should cut the black wire from the accelerator to the module, tape the side of the accelerator and ground the end to the module. They sounded confident ("that will do it Solve problem"), so I shouldn't be the first to report it. Support was a little rough, but quick and to the point, so I was happy. After work, cut the wires and connect the black wire to ground - it worked right away. This good cruise control I think the instructions should be better, should have troubleshooting information and if the ground problem is so common with the connectors that come with it, they should consider replacing it with a separate standard ground.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Minor issues
