Review on Precision Cutting with Whiteside Router Bits 1960 Diameter by Chris Sanders

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nearly perfect. for power tool parts and accessories

Correction after some experimentation. I originally tried this in a Porter-Cable 690LR with an external speed controller without having a good feel for actual speed and I ended up with many vibratory sheet pile cuts that had a "pitch" about .030" wide. about .020" too shallow, as if one groove was smaller in diameter and deeper than the other. I cleaned the collet completely with no change in the results. After speaking to a Whiteside representative (great guys, wit to work together), I ran some additional experiments. I found a way to measure the actual speed of the router and was able to get very good cuts close to that recommendation (16000 RPM) and I'm happy with this purchase "I will definitely consider Whiteside beats for future purchases. My only criticism of this bit is that the shank is very long. In order to make a shallow cut the base of the router should be in almost the minimum position I think the bit should be tweaked for larger routers, but I'd prefer something about 1/4" shorter. You may need to upgrade the speed controller, but that's another matter - it doesn't respond well to variable loads. .Note: Whiteside's packaging was good - the drill comes in a carrying case and the drill itself is encased in a thick, flexible plastic sleeve which eliminates almost any possibility of damage on the way to the customer.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Other interesting options are available.
