The lid is plastic, with a stainless steel "cup" if you want it fits well. However, it is held together with 2 tiny wood/sheet metal screws. The screws were loose, one fell out by itself. The plastic sleeve that holds the screws is too small for the size of the screw used. both sockets were damaged by the person who assembled this product. That would be very easy to do with such a bad design. It should have a stainless steel lid with a plastic handle. Looking at this design, I wonder how many times you can fill the kettle and have the lid still fall apart, even when it's on a "good" teapot. If you're making the switch to a sensible lid design, I'd recommend it Until then, she only gets one star.
