Great little KVM, especially for the price

I recently bought a new 27 inch Dell S2721D 1440p QHD monitor. My old IOGEAR KVM switched the keyboard and mouse between my Windows 10 PC and my Mac Mini, but the video didn't switch to the new higher resolution monitor. I figured it's because it's a few years old and probably doesn't support what the Mac needs (although it does toggle regular HD just fine). I bought this small, very inexpensive JideTech KVM and it works great. Everything switches great. At first I had a problem with the sound because it defaults to HDMI sound. The PC was fine with it, but the Mac didn't like it. There is no volume control when using HDMI audio on a Mac. On page 4 of the manual there is a small note in the fine print about switching audio from HDMI to analog 3.5mm signal. You press and hold the KVM switch button for three seconds until both lights start flashing. This toggles it so you can just do it again to come back if you want. After I switched to analog audio, both computers were happy. Also, I can now use a digital audio converter (DAC) on my PC to improve the sound quality. I also use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. I plugged a tiny USB dongle (a Logitech Unifying controller) into the KVM's mouse port and it recognized both with no issues. One minus: there is no switching with hotkeys. Can't fault it for the price, but it would be nice to be able to hide it all behind the table and not leave the stupid button behind. Much easier with a hotkey to keep your fingers on the keyboard.

Pros
  • 2 port HDMI KVM switch with audio and mic
Cons
  • No automatic controls
