Note: The following is my original review, which has remained unchanged. I need this drive to burn dual layer DVDs and erase/rewrite CD-RWs. Unfortunately, he failed me on both fronts. (Using k3b on Linux.) The drive makes strange noises before reporting an I/O error. At the moment I'm leaving a 1 star review because it doesn't do what I need, but I don't want it to reflect too much about the brand. It is possible that the disc was damaged in transit; The actuator, of course, makes some strange noises. Failing hardware is sometimes just a fact of life. If the manufacturer honors the warranty and replaces the drive with a good one, I'll happily change this rating to 5 stars. Update: I reported the device as non-functional; The seller promptly sent a replacement disk. I received the new CD before I shipped the old one. The defective drive I originally received rendered the multi-dollar dual-layer DVDs unusable due to interrupted recording, but that's forgivable. Now I'm happy to burn both rewritable and dual layer discs with k3b in Linux Mint. I originally gave this product 1 star; However, I understand that computer components sometimes fail. What matters is how the seller handles the situation. This seller did exactly what the consumer wants; For this reason I have changed my rating to 5 stars. 100% satisfied customer!
