Review on Winix 5500 2 Purifier PlasmaWave Reducing by Rhonda Jennings

Revainrating 1 out of 5

WARNING! This thing killed our beloved cockatiel!

False advertising that their Plasmawave does not produce ozone is complete nonsense! At first I couldn't believe it. My boyfriend and I bought this product to help with pet dander as cockatiels produce insane amounts. He was a very active, happy and content chick who is only a year old and we thought this product would help, which it did as we kept him running 24/7 next to his cage on automatic. I was concerned about ozone air purifiers during my research and came across this product that seemed amazing at first. My friend's bird only showed symptoms of inactivity the day after using it, not chirping, singing or barking like ours. but we were so busy that we just didn't give it much attention and concern until the inevitable happened. When we went to the vet for the autopsy he said our poor bird's lungs had failed and could have many reasons so he asked if we had done anything differently and mentioned we had bought a new air purifier then he asked us whether he had any ionizers and that they produce ozone which may have harmed our bird. I then went and called Winix to see if their Plasmawave really does produce ozone, they of course said yes but in very small amounts which is considered harmless and also mentioned that it can be turned off. It might not be that bad for humans, but be careful using this thing around pets and learn from our mistake! In a fit of rage, my friend smashed this product with a baseball bat. So now we've lost our beloved companion bird and are heartbroken, and my wallet is $180 lighter if only these companies advertise properly and accurately. I do not recommend this product to anyone with pets.
