Review on Dell S2340M - 23 Inch LED Lit Monitor with 1920X1080 Resolution, 60Hz Refresh Rate, and High Definition - ‎293M3 Model by John Clements

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Remarkably good image quality for the price, with one caveat (gamma)

(Test 21.5" version. Note: VGA cable only, no DVI or HDMI.) I was in dire need of a monitor for a remote location. I wouldn't want to buy anything less than a 1920 x 1080 IPS display. Was surprised to see a matching model from Dell in the $150 range. I have the U2412m which is good enough so I decided to take a chance. ), I am impressed. Dell has clearly put a lot of effort into ensuring good picture quality (at the cost of unnecessary features :) The only adjustment is tilt and there's no VESA mount, so make sure the height is right for your space. As I said above, no DVI cable is included, so you will need a spare cable. No USB hub and no audio. It's super glossy but that doesn't bother me as it works well in my workspace, I can only see the display. The case and base are also very glossy, which is fine as long as you don't leave fingerprints on them. You agree with such a cost saving/aesthetic choice, the monitor offers the most important thing: picture quality. It's bright enough for a room with natural light, calibrates well (but works out of the box), has fairly even backlighting, great contrast, great black depth, decent viewing angles, etc. Flat bezel and slim profile; It looks like a quality item and not a cheap budget product. And the OSD is good (includes a custom RGB setting if needed). color hint; Dell calls the mysterious figure "81%" (percent of what? aRGB? NTSC?). Based on cursory online research, I believe this monitor is close enough to sRGB (slightly more) for general content consumption and enjoyment. However, if you're a photographer or graphic designer you should do more research than me and this screen probably isn't for you, except as a second display for non-scale-critical applications. In short, if you're on a budget for a second monitor or remote monitor and don't need "features" but don't want to compromise on quality, the S2240M is for you. My "missing" fifth star is due to the non-sRGB color space, which limits this monitor's applications.
