Review on πŸ‹οΈ 2 Pack of Akron Adjustable Floor Jacks (Model C-4), Telescoping Jacks for Temporary Support, Size Range 1'-1' 3 by Chad Boho

Could be better but can be made to work well.

These jacks can carry a full load of 18,000 pounds when extended no more than 15 inches in height. They can get 3 inches more, but they won't support the full weight. It may be okay to lift a sagging floor, but you need full lifting capacity when there is a wall above your lifting point. The comments about weak ground planes are correct. For example, at full load, the plate in which the screw is inserted will shatter until it touches the raised surface. This can easily be stopped by putting 2 1/2" shims in the recess to support the weight instead of the plate. .When the load compresses the plate, the shims will hit first. If the shims get in a little digging in the beam transfers the load to the rest of the plate.Works well and requires no machining. The fact that the parts are not welded together makes it difficult to fit this jack in tight spaces.I found that I could use the was able to tape things together long enough to keep everything in place. Even with a light load, everything stays in place. Be sure to wipe the bolt and nut and make sure the threads are running smoothly before attempting to use this jack mine had dirt and metal shavings that used to jam the screw make sure the tip of the jack screw is clean and smooth t is I had to remove some burrs and dirt to get a smooth bearing surface. After everything is clean and spinning easily, lubricate the threads and bearing surface. Otherwise it will be very difficult to lift anything close to the rated load. So, a little more care in the work and the right top plate and you'll have a great product. It could be further improved by providing a second set of wedge flats at 90 degrees to the first set. With only one set, in tight spaces you need to use a small pipe wrench to turn the jackscrew.

Pros
  • a good thing
Cons
  • a lot of stuff
