I've had a Hoover vacuum for 6 years and it never broke, I just gave it away because it was old and I had one I moved to a new house so I didn't want to take extra things with us on top of everything we had to move. I went with this one around this time because it was cheaper and to see if it cleaned as well as a carpet washer but of course without the washing function. The carpet washing machine was impressive in comparison, but I had to rush to change water buckets and clean the dirty tank at least 4 times to clean my 1 bedroom apartment and that was the only way to clean my carpets because I didn't have any other vacuums so it took me up to 6 hours to collect and move all things from floor to bed, clean and swap out the buckets, and then clean the brushes and filters. The carpets stayed clean for about a month. So it's just very strong and easy to use, it's pretty easy my 2 year old son can use it happily. It has no dust bags, just a plastic bin that simply clicks open and you're ready for your next cleaning session. These carpets in my new house are new and dark gray in contrast to those in my previous apartment. They were installed in 1974 and were beige, so I had trouble getting them right no matter how hard I tried. I think there will be less fuss with these carpets, but I think in a year or so I'll be buying Hoover Carpet Cleaner again to keep them smelling fresh. But I will also use this vacuum between occasional carpet washes.
