I bought this canister filter (almost) three years ago for my 50 gallon outdoor lily tank with about 10 fish. So much has happened in the last three years: water lilies bloom and overwinter, we graduated from high school and got a job, we moved, a raccoon came and ate the biggest goldfish, the babies of the goldfish that was eaten grew up, we refinanced the house twice, we gave birth, she is one year old now. However, this filter will still work. I clean it about every 3 months (or when I notice the flow is weaker). Cleaning is not difficult, but requires effort. I'm about to replace the cloth filters for the first time because the white is starting to break up. The filter stays outdoors throughout its lifespan, under the sun in summer and under the sun in winter. I put some kind of plastic cover on it to protect it from sun, dust or rain. Honestly I would be happy if it lasted 2 years. I recommend! Update: The first photo was taken in early spring when I was just cleaning the tank and putting it in a sunny spot, the tank is that clean. The filter helps keep the water clean but does not kill all algae. The tank turns green very quickly. The second photo shows the tank today.
