Easy Repair, Big Savings

A leaking steering input shaft seal is a common problem with vintage cars, and a common problem is buying a new or remanufactured assembly for $100 to $500+. This is a great alternative solution and it worked for me. I replaced the gasket in my 1965 El Camino and also used Lucas Stop Leak power steering fluid. Just in case. I think part of this problem may be related to using the new power steering fluids. They used to use automatic transmission fluid, but Lucas works great. I took the box out of the car to work on it, it's easier that way. I used a windshield trim remover to remove the old seal and a socket and hammer to install the new seal. Be sure to apply liquid to the gasket before installing it.
