Replaced the original which did not seem to be the cause of the no laser symptom. It was the power supply. Before replacing the laser module, take a moment to check the power supply (6V DC) in the handle. To replace the laser: There are small springs and set screws that need to be moved from the old laser assembly to the new one. The plastic laser module replaces the original metal module, and the original springs and screws match the new part. The feathers will fly out if you're not careful. I put a sheet of plastic on top of the platter to catch random bits flying out, but thanks to the alerts others have shared I was able to identify and remove the springs one by one. The plastic laser insert has round notches that mark the ends of the smaller springs. There are two different cone springs - one with the side adjuster on the right, the other with a thin washer on the rear adjuster, both of which you will remove and replace. The cable from the laser to the Poser power supply in the handle must be installed so that the exposed portion of the wire has enough slack to wrap around the casting without tension when the saw is lowered to its lowest position. The combination of the plastic "yoke" of the cable and the passage in the handle determines the scope. When routing the cable, install the clamp and grommet while the handle is locked in the down position, everything should be fine. The laser module must be adjusted/aligned with the two set screws that you took over from the old module. I used a handy 6 inch carpenter's square as a guide. With the Lexan plate installed (3 screws and 3 additional temporary washers you provide) but the metal shield removed, adjust the set screw through the hole in this plate so that the horizontal azimuth is 90º from the stop. Then, after removing the rubber stopper from the bottom, adjust the vertical bearing to 90º to the table. Check both settings after replacing the metal screen. Reinstall the rubber stopper when you are happy with the settings. Finally, use the right thumbscrew to adjust the laser's lateral position so that the line aligns with the cut on your preferred side of the blade. This last setting is described in the user manual as part of the normal initial setup. Last but not least, safety comes first. With the saw unplugged, work until you need power to inspect and align the laser module. Don't come home empty-handed and all. Also: Do not look into the laser with the remaining eye! It's pretty hard to break that rule in this ca w, but someone might try anyway.
