Worked on a Kodiak Sidewinder Step

I installed Kodiak Sidewinder Steps on my 2003 Chevy. With the exception of the engine, the stages and parts of them are no longer manufactured. My regular ECU died on one of the Sidewinder stages. The step moves about 3 inches and stops. I contacted Kviki. I was told to look for a replacement on the used car market as the ECU is no longer manufactured. I turned to the van market to find a replacement control box. I found and purchased this model on Revain.com. The module is the same size except for the triangular bracket that is glued to this device. It fits into the body of the Sidewinder footpeg if you shorten the triangular bracket a bit. There are still mounting holes that you can use to mount it in the stage body. This module also has extra wiring that you don't need when installing on a Sidewinder step (step lights, RV bypass switch, etc.). In any event, the motor in the Sidewinder has the exact same connector as the motor power wires on that unit, so that part was wired straight. Then there was the wiring in the switch and the power supply. I went to page 9. Figure #11 of the RV Step instructions that came with the new ECU using this diagram: I cut the old connector off the old ECU because the connector on the new ECU was different. I left enough wire attached to the connector to be able to connect it to the new control box. I cut off the 4 pin connector on the new control box. With the old plug I connected it to the new control box with brown to brown, red to red, white unused and green to ground. I connected the old plug that is now connected to the new block to the same old socket from the power supply. I opened the door and bingo! I was in business. I'm glad it worked and that I tried a different device. Since control boxes aren't made specifically for the Sidewinder, I'm glad I found a replacement. I hope this helps those looking to overhaul their Kodiak Sidewinder footpegs.
