The handle of the kettle is made of metal-coated plastic. The downside to this feature is that I'm pretty sure the metal plating will peel off over time; A plus is that the metal handle is not very hot to the touch. Temperature controller and window are made of plastic. Those who are sensitive to plastic will not want this kettle. The metal of the teapot itself is very thin - it seems it crumples fairly easily and gets very hot if accidentally touched. I will be returning this item as I had hoped. to something stronger.
