I was trying to get a rare overdrive chip for my 486 (Evergreen AMD 5x86 with integrated voltage regulator). The prices for this particular processor are exorbitant, so I bought the core processor, a cheap voltage regulator adapter, and had an old 486 heatsink/fan lying around.3 has no mounting brackets, and the height of the processor will still be large Therefore. The tape worked perfectly. I don't know if it works well with temperature, but for an old 5x86 chip it doesn't really matter that much. It just needs to chill a bit, so this tape definitely did the trick. This keeps the processor pretty cool. I would be more concerned with a more modern high TDP device. The tape is quite thick and quite sticky, so I don't know how difficult it will be to separate the CPU from the heatsink at this point. That's probably good since the motherboard/CPU is on its side (they're in the tower case) so I need the duct tape to resist gravity indefinitely. So far they are holding up well.
