Review on Extech 45168CP Thermo Anemometer Built Compass Measuring & Layout Tools by Carlos Long

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not what I would call waterproof.

It's supposed to be floatable and waterproof, but after being submerged an inch in water for about 2 minutes it stopped working. An O-ring in the battery cover and other anti-intrusion measures are not enough. There was visible water in the block and it took 2-3 days of sitting in the sun for the moisture to come out. Luckily it worked again later, but I'm definitely not happy. What good is something to a sailor that can't get a little wet? If you want to tell people your product is waterproof, that's better than hell because you know they'll test it for durability and be pissed when it fails. Otherwise it's a decent device, but I'm starting to think they just overestimate "features". You may need to return this item.

Pros
  • The Max function retrieves the maximum wind speed value over time
Cons
  • Requires an electrical outlet
