Review on 🚲 Enhance Safety on the Trail with the TIMBER! Mountain Bike Bell - Bolt-On Model by Ghostnote Hankins

Good idea, but too many design flaws.

Such crap. I share mountain trails in the greater Phoenix area with other cyclists, hikers, and horseback riders. Trails can be tight and corners can be blind at times. I used to use the standard one-hit bell to alert others to my presence. I met another biker who had this modern bell style that allows for a smooth, continuous ring that isn't as annoying as a single hard ring. So a few years ago I bought my first Timber Mtn. $25 is cool for such a simple product. But I liked it so much I bought two more to give away (these guys have since stopped driving so can't comment). After 60-70 rides, the tensioner wore out, making it impossible to reliably dampen the bell. The firing pin in the bell seems to be too heavy for the tensioner, which seems like an easy fix. Being a cheapskate I didn't want to spend another $25 so I just lived with the hassle while I could. I gave up a few weeks ago, collapsed and bought another Timber Bell, this time with a hard clamp. I attached a tool to the handlebar that pulled out a nut that was inside the molded plastic housing. I had to send that back. So now I'm back to the old inexpensive single-stroke mountain bike bell. The concept behind this Timber Call is solid, albeit expensive. You just have to deal with these design issues. It's too unreliable, especially at this price point.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something
