Driving to Sturgis from Massachusetts in my 15 year old New England 4x4 Jeep. I went to check the spare and rusty solid. The cotter pin was rusted and broken, so my spare winch just turned in my hands. The new one was the perfect replacement. Once I fought with an old rusty! Soak in PB and use head 1/2 on crusher to remove. Coated the new one with lithium grease and used anti-seize bolts. I also had to use a hammer drill to remove a piece of metal that was inserted into the new winch where the original had a cotter pin as that was the only way to install the rotating crank. Instead of a cotter pin, I used an anti-seize coated nut and bolt. This time it won't fail because of a rusty cotter pin. The job is not one I would look forward to doing again!
