Review on πŸš— ATP B-171 Auto Transmission Filter Kit by Paul Hyde

Revainrating 5 out of 5

2008 Saturn Vue Greenline Hydromatic, 4T45 4 speed transmission

Filter and gasket looked identical to the AC Delco OEM parts I replaced. There was some rubber on the metal insert that looked like it would peel off so I gave the rating 4 stars out of 5 as I had to rub it with my fingers to get the peeled rubber off. This is not very encouraging, since any contamination in the gearbox can lead to its failure. However, I was able to clean it up enough to think it should at least be good. Trans accepted 6.7 liters of Dexron VI fully synthetic gear oil after dropping a pan. The 8mm bolts were removed and then torqued to 124" with a good quality torque wrench (note I know people who pick bolts with cheap bolts like they ship to the port). The filler plug is 11mm on the passenger side and the engine must be running and level (you can use a magnetic level and attach it to the pan) when you remove it. After filling, a sufficient amount of liquid should flow out of the filler plug. When finished, do not turn off the engine , as you could lose 2 liters. With the engine running, tighten the bolt to 124 lb.in with Loctite 242. Note that 124 lb.in is the material specified by the manufacturer. Specifications under about 89" pounds. However, 124 seems working fine for me just don't break the bolts and drop the car on your head and you're good to go finally realize that earlier 4T45 transmissions received service bulletin 08-07-30-04-0B of May 6, 2009, look it up on Google. It requires replacing the old square magnet with two magnets from GM P/N 29535617. The bulletin corrected an issue where the old square magnet was too weak, allowing metal to stick to the solenoid and not the magnet in the transmission pan. To fix this, they ask you to replace the old square magnet with two round ones and show where to place those round magnets. If you drop the palette it will cost $16 to fix for two magnets as it could break transmission with the original square magnet. If you don't have a square magnet in your pan, it may already be attached or not applicable.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Has issues
