Was skeptical because of negative reviews. The thing works. pointless. Yes, if you wet the cable the readings will be accurate. Just dry the cable with a lint-free cloth, power cycle and it will work just fine. I've used it on smoked chicken, steaks, burgers, tilapia, etc. Works great! I have some kind of animal meter as a backup to confirm temperatures. But you can't lose with this Maverick. I love the color values: blue means you're 20 degrees colder or more, red when you're within 10 degrees of the right temperature, then green when you're ready to go + an alarm sounds.
