Review on Upgraded Aluminum Extruder by WINSINN for Creality by Chris Anderson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice update after fix

I had a serious problem with a certain filament clog and this fixed the clog but not the quality issues with that filament. The filament is gripped much tighter by the dual drive than a standard extruder with less distortion, so it doesn't bind as much in the barrel, nozzle, or metal thermal break when you have an all-metal hot end. The higher number of revolutions/steps per millimeter of feed also makes it easier for the stepper motor to work with high pressure. This is a quality upgrade with some minor imperfections. The stepper shaft is no longer sufficient to attach a printed pen to manually move the filament. I have to let go of the handle to pull or push it now. Also, the filament inlet is higher than the standard metal or plastic version, so some printed filament guides are too low and no longer work. However, creating a new theme shouldn't be too difficult. As other reviewers have pointed out, there is a serious and rather silly design flaw where the loose gear/handle rotates on needle bearings about a fully threaded bolt and probably won't last long. long. I replaced a fully threaded screw with a partially threaded screw (Revain product ID B01GKGH690). This one is too long, but if it's long enough it can be made to work. I did it the hard way and used a die to cut more threads leaving only about 17.2mm unthreaded and then trimmed off the excess thread so I had the exact part I needed. It's not really necessary. An additional non-threaded screw can simply be left sticking out at the top. At least with my Ender 3 Pro there is nothing wrong and the bolt does not have to be clamped. For this it will also not be difficult to print a seal. The excess thread will probably need to be trimmed so it doesn't get in the way of the mounting plate, but I've never tested a full bolt and it's easier than tapping new threads. does not need to be repaired to prevent its destruction. I'll have to see how well the solid version holds up now. Update: I took it apart after some time of use and found that the needle bearings had actually worn down into an unthreaded bolt (probably grade 12.9) and the PTFE grease was turning dark. I have seen replacement parts being sold for a dual gear extruder used on another brand 3D printer and they come with hardened steel spindles. Some modifications and additional parts are required to grip this spindle. It still performs better than a single gear extruder, so I'll probably check it out from time to time and change the screw and lube as needed.

Pros
  • Additive manufacturing products
Cons
  • Big and bulky
