Review on High Performance MSI Z390-A PRO Motherboard for Intel 8th and 9th Gen with M.2 USB 3.1 Gen 2 DDR4 HDMI DP CFX Dual Gigabit LAN ATX Z390 Gaming by Adam Turczyk ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm very happy, it really is worth buying.

In February 2022, I took this board for the i5 9600K processor in order to overclock to 5 GHz, with which this motherboard coped with a bang. After a short googling and watching YouTube, I drove this percentage across all cores, first to 4.8, and then to 5 GHz, after which I decided to lower the frequency to 4.9 due to the fact that although Noctua NH D15 costs, 2x140mm screws for blowing and 3x140mm for blowing, but at idle the temperature is around 43-44 degrees. I note that the fans are controlled by both voltage and PWM (I've seen many people ask). Having dropped 100 MHz, I lowered the idle temperature to psychologically acceptable 40 C. I also drove the RAM on this board from 3200 to 3600 without reducing the timings. Of course, you can raise the frequency even more (the dies allow), but the timings will float there, which will not give much in growth, it’s everyone’s business here, specifically I didn’t want to sit and select frequencies and timings. The main thing is if you have 2 RAM sticks, insert them into the 2nd and 4th memory slots (according to the instructions from the box). The issue with Bluetooth and WiFi was solved by purchasing an Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 network adapter in the M2 form factor, since the mat. the board has a special M2 connector for this or a similar module (generally, there are 2 M2 connectors on the board, only one of them works for SSD, and the second ONLY for expansion cards). Installation takes 10 minutes and the device is detected in the system without dancing with a tambourine. Driver installation - and access to all wireless interfaces is open: 2.4 / 5 GHz WiFi + Bluetooth 5.1. It is worth noting that I overclocked it both on the BIOS out of the box and after ating to the latest current version for April 2022. Everything works correctly. As a result, I received a new PC based on this motherboard with a 6-core processor and a frequency of 4.9 GHz for all cores + 3600 MHz RAM (during overclocking, the power supply is often a stumbling block, remember this). I read that people died after 3 months of these models, pah pah pah, the 5th month the flight is normal.

Pros
  • Compliance with the declared characteristics and reviews regarding overclocking potential. The presence of an additional connector for powering the processor. A sufficient number of USB ports, both 2.0 and 3.0 / 3.1.
Cons
  • Lack of WiFi and Bluetooth out of the box. For 8 k (at the time of purchase - February 2022) I would like it to be. Also, there is no heatsink on the M2 SSD (this is already a nitpick).

Very high quality motherboard. Satisfies all needs. I recommend to buy. Analogues costing 5-7 thousand more.
