This item can be easily inserted into the 3.5" slot. The internal USB 3.0 port can be easily connected to the mainboard port. The device was equipped with a USB 3.0 SSD tested and it ran pretty fast I recommend using this item in either a server case or even a PC case with a 3.5" bay.
