I bought a relatively cheap PS3 on Craigslist but the Blue Beam couldn't read discs so I decided to turn it off. The process is relatively easy after doing a search on YouTube PS3 disassembly. Make sure the video you are watching is the same as yours (my PS3 was version 2001a). You must be careful with the ribbon cables on the Blu-Ray as they are relatively fragile. So don't over-tighten and don't forget to reconnect them when you replace the old drive's circuit board. he swapped, blu-ray worked fine. So far it has played movies and games well.
