I bought a new laptop for Christmas and didn't even know there was no CD/DVD drive connected. This didn't become a problem until I tried to download my control software and quickly realized there was no room for the CD. I came across this external CD/DVD drive and decided to give it a try. That works great! I was able to plug an external drive into one of my USB ports and easily download the control software onto my computer. I also really liked that the cable has its own storage space pressed into the back of the device. This simplifies storage of the external drive. If, like me, you made a purchase without realizing you didn't have a CD/DVD drive plugged in, this external drive is perfect!
