Mortar Removed - Saved Entire Bathroom Remodel

I had to open up a wall to replace old plumbing pipes. The plumber didn't think I could remove the old tiles without breaking them, but either that or replace three entire walls of tiles. I couldn't get new tiles to match the old ones (55 years old). I started with a dremel rotary mortar but they didn't last long. I bought a Dremel Multi-Max, used a 1/16" blade and removed about 40 tiles, only breaking two and losing a few where the faucets went through the wall above the tub. You are not visible and all the work was great. Just one caveat: this blade cuts the tiles, and in some cases it damages the edges of the tiles - these tiles went behind the toilet. The blade also cut the tile seal. When replacing, I had to use grommets and plastic gaskets. After the grout was removed I used a heat gun and scraper to loosen the adhesive and remove the tiles from the wall. Then a heat gun and scraper to clean the back of the tile - a lot of work but a lot of money saved.
