After locking myself out (in the garage) in my pajamas and no one was home and no one came back, I decided to get a padlock with the keypad And hide the key where I can remember it. So I spent an hour drilling my titanium-coated lock (who does that? Oh, never mind) and dusted off some good drill bits. Luckily I have several sets because I can't remember where I put them so I'm buying another one. In that case, darling, it saved my bacon. OK bought the above keypad lock because it was stainless steel and a lot cheaper than most. I mean it's in the garage and if I ever need to drill it open you'll see why it's here). Some things to be prepared for: It will not fit the standard American screw. On the outside I had to sand down about 3/16 to reveal the bottom of the latch. No I can't flip it because then the keyboard is upside down and the keys are hard enough after you've had a few beers. It wouldn't make sense. But it fits right on the stud and looks just as good. Run a small data cable, but do it the wrong way round. I'll get to it. You do not screw through the entire assembly as usual. Screw on the plate that secures the inside of the handle, but remember the outside barely fits? Well, it's not even close inside. For example a 2" screw overlap (hello marketing!) so this part might tip over because it doesn't have a keyboard, just a test case. So ignore the "this side up" on the plate (good steel plate but warps a little when you tighten it) and thread the cable through the cutout. He barely gets it. Now assemble a plug small enough to sit in your laptop at home with your fingers holding the inside handle. Impossible to do. Step 1 . Stick the tape firmly so that it does not fall off by itself. Step 2. Gently use a pin to align (white wires match, don't bother with the rest) and gently snap. If it doesn't click, it falls apart and your keyboard isn't connected to anything. You can now attach the inner handle with the 2 screws that are now connected to the bottom of the plate. TA Dah. Success. Throw in some industrial batteries because you don't want to find dead batteries when you get home and follow them. programming guide. After two or three tries, you'll probably get the hang of it. installed, looks good, works fine. The unlock button is on the bottom right. Take a red marker and make it more visible. Or nail polish, I can't judge that. You get a key or keypad and stainless steel lock for the price of a non-locking cabinet lock. Oh before I forget. New Installations - Strike plate has non-standard mounting screw spacing so mark before cutting or if there is an existing strike plate just use it. The included screws are tiny. Get some good 1 1/2-2" stainless steel braces to hold the striker plate in place. Enjoy.
