I bought this product because it is thick and durable. My last pizza stone broke. When I first used it, there was a strange smell in the house and I wasn't sure if it was a stone or if I spilled something in the oven, so I pushed my doubts aside. The second time I used it in the oven the same thing happened. I figured it might need another cleaning so I wet it, scrubbed it gently, dried it and put it away. I recently used it to bake another pizza and it still gave off the same horrible chemical smell that had permeated the house for hours. I was going to give it second hand but decided against it because this product looks like it gives off a noxious gas and I don't want others to inhale it like we do. It went into the trash can. :(
