If you can use your finger, they are useless.
If you're good at smoothing the seal with your finger, don't worry. I was hoping this would help keep my fingers from getting grout on my fingers, but they are a lot harder to use than a finger. With these tools I constantly had gaps/air pockets/etc. If the two surfaces to be patched are perfectly smooth and straight, they can work without any problems. but I think that rarely happens. They weren't worth buying, but at least they were cheap.
