I bought these from a hardware store so I could choose the best boxes from a pile as some had warped lids that didn't close properly. I used my own designs. They came out fine, but you see all the ugly seams when you lift the lid. For this project you will need more floss than expected (I used 6 skeins at a time to fill in the holes) and a supply of spare needles - wood isn't as forgiving as Aida fabric. I removed the lid from the box for flashing - you need a small screwdriver. And I also applied a few coats of polyurethane to it before I started sewing and added a magnetic clasp to keep the lid closed. A cute idea for a dressing table or desk. The box is big enough to hold some small things.
