Although this heater has lasted a long time (6 years) I went out a few minutes ago. It hissed, crackled, burned and caught fire INSIDE THE TANK which I thought was impossible. I was able to turn it off before anything worse happened, but while I've had heaters in the past that stopped working (usually, in my experience, they either stop regulating temperature or don't heat at all), I've never experienced that. happened. . I always try to turn off the water during a water change (and didn't last week) so it's not an abuse issue. I'd rather spend a little more on my next tank heater.
