It looks well made and is quite solid. The delivery took longer than expected, only 9 days. The encapsulated (clear epoxy?) bottom appears to be waterproof, but I haven't tested that. In general, the LED panel is quite bright at high frequencies. Indoors, it can easily illuminate a wall at a distance of 15 feet, which is enough for a good view. At night it can be seen from afar. The low setting is fairly efficient, drawing only 80mA. at 13 VDC (most common) draws about 300 mA of current per unit. I wasn't expecting an integrated voltage regulation circuit, but that explains the wide input voltage range of 9-16V that can be accepted. The dimming function maintains a fairly constant level of brightness when applied across a range of input voltages. It is brightest when applied between 10.5 and 11 VDC. above that, the adjustment reduces the brightness slightly. A simple voltage vs current diagram can be helpful for some people when planning to wire it up. If the voltage drops to 9V or below it will go out of regulation and switch to low consumption if you provide a lower input voltage as it needs more to compensate for the voltage reduction. Below 9V the control circuit shuts down and it gets much darker. 8.5V and below is pretty much disabled. It is useful to have an adjustable current function for an LED driver as it allows you to tune the brightness and lifespan of the LEDs to optimal values when implemented correctly. I hope that the complexity of the automatic control loop will remain reliable in the long term. Normally LEDs do not have this option.
