I removed the shims, and the 2 inch discs did not fit. The gasket must have been kryptonite because even with superhuman strength I couldn't scrape it off the cast iron cylinder block. They were closely related to what I was doing, but they got the job done. Next time I might have to ask that clumsy friend for help. He owes me.
