Review on Thermo Tec 11620 Pipe Shield by Black Croom

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works fantastic!

[I used this for the exhaust pipe on my 2009 Honda Shadow Spirit 750.] I needed a simple solution to keep my oversized saddlebags (Kuryakyn GranThrow-Over saddlebags) off the bottom of the bag melted through . I thought it was either this product or one of the "exhaust wraps" but it seemed a lot easier to install and remove in the future. I was concerned that the snail clamps that came with it would be too small, but with a little finesse they will fit 3.5″ too. Exhaust diameter (the shaft with the largest diameter extends to the end). I used an IR thermometer to check the exhaust surface temperature after a 30 minute ride and it was around 200F. After you later install and test this product again: The temperature on the reflective side is about 230-240F and on the top is 120-140F. While you don't want your hand on top, it certainly won't burn you like an exhaust, and your pocket (or leg) will be a little uncomfortably warm at best. I'd also like to add this: It may not look pretty, but honestly, exhaust wrap products don't look either. It will also be much easier to remove, reducing the risk of your exhaust overheating and shortening its lifespan.

Pros
  • Excellent fit for me
Cons
  • Almost OK
