Worked about 2 years before the hard drive failed completely. I took the hard drive out of its case (out of warranty anyway) and hooked it up to multiple computers with a few cables, connectors, and software. Neither of them could read it. HD submitted to iosafe for free analysis; was a big mistake by HD. They were offered over $1,200 to attempt data recovery on a 2TB drive (they would have to send it to a forensic recovery service). It is recommended to have either multiple recurring backup devices or an advanced data recovery plan.
