is normal. It's just a piece of plywood with grooves. It holds my quilting rulers well but they get stuck. And at least one groove is too thin for a ruler. I can't grab the ruler quickly with one hand, otherwise the whole piece goes with it. Just not what I expected. Was hoping for a sturdier piece with the grooves slightly wider than the rulers for quick and easy removal.
