Review on 🚴 Enhance Your Cycling Safety with Smith Optics Signal MIPS Men's Cycling Helmet by Marlo Schlachter

MIPS road bike helmet with an excellent price-performance ratio.

Overview of the Smith Optics Signal MIPS road bike helmet. This model is the fraternal twin of the Smith Convoy but with the main difference from the latter having a non-removable visor and visor and designed for MTB riders. Signal's target audience is weekend cyclists like me, commuters or casual riders looking for a quality and affordable MIPS bike helmet available on the market. STYLE: Signal is available in seven different solid colors and gloss finishes. Only. Brand logos are printed on each side and there is a MIPS sticker on the back. This helmet's modest appearance and affordable price tag may not meet the minimum fashion standards of purists or people who dress to impress. While this is a matter of personal opinion, the overall look of this helmet is quite decent to me. As long as a cyclist wears a helmet that's the right size for their head, it doesn't look stupid or ridiculous at all. I don't mind wearing this hat and riding with other cyclists. SIZE: (If you have a round head and are between sizes, I suggest going down the smaller size.) I'm 5ft 6in and a half tall. with a head of 59 cm (round shape). The size chart on Smith's website shows 55-59cm for medium and 59-62cm for large, which puts me in between sizes. I had a chance to try both options and chose Medium.->MEDIUM - I chose this size because it fits my head. The helmet sits at a fingertip and half that width above my eyebrows, and while the maximum size is up to 59cm, the dial adjustment is actually slightly wider, allowing for a skullcap. The physical size and fit of the helmet fit my head perfectly. Not too wide, not too high/low. -> LARGE - while the minimum head size for the large is 59cm, the dial adjustment can actually be smaller, probably down to 58cm where it feels too tight when turned all the way in. Adjusted correctly, the large one actually fits my head comfortably. Only the physical size of the bowl is too big. My head is buried low, the helmet sits on my eyebrows and the sides touch the tops of my ears. The overall size of the helmet itself is quite large for my build so it sits on me like a mushroom. FEATURES: I wore this helmet on a 56 mile ride in fairly warm weather. It's light and comfortable on the head with great ventilation, about the same as my other cap (Specialized Align II MIPS). The Align II is a great helmet too, but what I liked most about the Signal was its weight. I didn't think the align was hard until I placed the signal on this trip. In fact, there was a time when the wind was blowing and I felt like I wasn't wearing a helmet. SAFETY AND DURABILITY: It is hoped that the safety and durability of this helmet will never be tested in a real crash. However, as a premium MIPS-equipped helmet brand, I'm fairly confident that in the event of an accident, this cover will do an excellent job of protecting or at least minimizing head injuries. The signal quality is first class. For those who don't know, SMITH is one of the leading brands known for their quality outdoor sports equipment including goggles, sunglasses, apparel and of course helmets. The smaller size was the right choice for me. Because head shape and size varies from person to person, it's best to try different sizes whenever possible to find the right fit. For cyclists on a budget who are looking for a good quality MIPS helmet and don't mind wearing a modest style cap that might not win a cycling fashion competition among road purists; In terms of value for money, it will be very difficult to beat Smith Optics' signal.
