Additional 2.5 " Front End Oil Change Clearance

For the last 20 years I have performed oil and filter changes on my 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan by sliding under the front and removing the oil filter. without using a jack and a jack to raise the vehicle. A tight fit is putting it mildly. It feels like the bottom of the plastic fender is less than an inch above my head, and I could barely slide under it far enough to remove the tool around the oil filter, but it didn't take much effort to dislodge it and remove . Eventually, I found it was becoming more difficult to get enough torque to hand tighten the new oil filter properly, even with gloves, due to the odd angle required to access the filter when the car is on all four wheels standing on the floor. The low plastic ramps are perfect for my needs as I can easily remove the oil filter with a tool and replace it by twisting my hand without having to bend my arm to get it out. Your mileage may vary depending on the vehicle. It's a little difficult to get onto these manual transmission ramps as they're a bit narrower than my tire width, but it was easier with Subaru than previous front-wheel drive cars. steeper steel ramps, as the WRX is less likely to "grab" the ramp when climbing and throw it over the handlebars (since the rear axles also provide forward propulsion). Even if I did manage to fly over the edge of these ramps and go over the leading edge, I don't think it would harm my car and I would just get out and pull the ramp away from behind the wheel. I like that I can now access the oil pan drain valve and oil filter for replacement without also jacking the car up and installing two jack stands. I have rubber chocks but I don't use them when the car is on these ramps because I can't push the car off the ramps with my foot out the door and the parking brake off, so I just put the parking brake on before crawling. below the front edge.
