I have successfully repaired engines with this tool. The problem is, if you don't push that ring compressor against the block very hard, the rings tend to pop out between the bottom of the ring compressor and the top of the block. This problem tends to be worse with thin streaks of oil. Although this tool works in principle, it is difficult to use and can potentially damage rings if you are not very careful. If you plan to use this ring compressor, do it slowly and take your time. If the piston is stuck during installation, do not use force. One of the rings has probably jumped out of the compressor. Start over and try again.
