Many if not most of the previous reviews praised the physical attributes of this hub and its ability to charge other devices. and it is correct. But for various reasons, I was more interested in its ability to work with storage devices, which could greatly increase the performance and usefulness of a portable computer. bottom line? When it comes to hosting external hard drives, this hub offers desktop capacity for a laptop. I'm not exaggerating here. My testing began by plugging a hub into a USB 3.0 port on my relatively powerful desktop computer. I then connected FOUR WD portable drives to the hub. As I pressed each of its handy buttons in turn, my Windows operating system quickly recognized the appropriate drive and correctly displayed its folder and file contents. Wondering how long this thing could last, I pulled out one of the drives and replaced it with an unpowered hub that offered four extra ports. Also, this hub alone couldn't even handle one of my WD drives. In any event, I connected two non-powered drives to this hub and both were recognized almost immediately by my operating system, which again accurately displayed the contents of its files and folders. I didn't use the remaining two ports on the unpowered hub. I had no doubts about the result. But just to satisfy my curiosity. I connected my tablet to the charging port of a self-powered hub. Of course it worked fine. They say a picture says more than a thousand words. If so, please take a look at the ones I've attached to this review. If you ever feel the need to give your laptop access to around 28 terabytes of stored data, this combination of hubs is it! Before I bought this nifty device, I looked at about a dozen others. Best of Breed? Without a doubt!-=-===-= SUPPLEMENT -=-=-=-=It turns out that the previous review was a bit hasty. The day after I wrote these eulogies, one of the hub's four ports failed. The light went out and never came on again. As if to prove that every cloud does indeed have a silver lining, I soon discovered another hub that offered all the desired features of an RSHTECH hub, but also boasted some significant improvements. I somehow missed this node when inspecting the field. So my claim to be "Best of Breed" was premature. I'm currently looking for a new hub that currently works with seven WD portable drives and charges my tablet and one of my batteries at the same time. Here I am also using the same unpowered hub to provide additional ports. which I will probably never need or use in the future. But my curiosity had to be satisfied.
