Review on 🌐 LiftMaster 828LM Internet Gateway for Enhanced Connectivity by David Perez

This gateway allows the connection of a MyQ equipped Liftmaster or Chamberlain garage door opener. MyQ uses a proprietary radio signal and this gateway is a device that you plug into your home router to connect MyQ garage door openers to your local network so the MyQ app can control your doors. One of these gateways has inexplicably failed. when I was out of town and my friend I gave guest access to couldn't open my garage. When I got home I called MyQ support and it was very difficult to deal with the representative. He let me factory reset the device and it just kept blinking to which he replied that the device is dead and I need to buy another one. I ended up ordering a replacement and plugging it into the power supply that was plugged into my old gateway and found the gateway was working fine but the power supply was "partially out of order". As it turns out, both my old and new gateway work with the new power supply and not the old power supply. This wasn't easy to debug as I literally had devices on fire with the old failed PSU, but it didn't initialize or configure itself. I'm only reviewing this unit because tech support should have diagnosed the problem and sent me a new power supply. Unfortunately I had to buy a new device to find the actual problem. Hopefully this review will save someone else from going through the same thing. I am very surprised that the PSU was damaged considering this unit is configured behind my sine wave UPS system with exemplary power control and battery backup. In fact, the power supply is of poor quality and only lasts a year. Overall I'm very happy with this device and I even have a Samsung SmartThings hub that uses this gateway to provide an Alexa voice command to open and close my two garage doors with flawless performance until the power went out.
