The first time we left our hamster unattended in this playpen, when we returned he was gone. We searched almost the whole house for a hamster and didn't even find a droppings. My friend who was staying the night happened to peek from behind something outside only to find our hamster was preening. There was an old dryer vent that was also very small and kind of squeezed through. I found a hole in my yard where someone was digging near where we found the hamster. The next day we put her in a cage and after a few minutes she came out again. The thing is. Hamsters DON'T UNDERSTAND. They're like Michael Scofield from The Breakout and Andy Dufresne from The Shawshank Redemption. The cage is nice, but maybe spray it with cooking spray or WD-40 to keep it slick, and they can't completely sink into Sylvester Stallone in cliffhanger freeclimbing mode. 3 stars because the cage is well made and durable. But that doesn't stop a bloody Syrian hamster. I can tell you a lot!
